Smartwatches have been gaining a lot of momentum lately with a couple of announcement and release for these past few months. Let's take a brief look at what are the current release of the round smartwatches and the upcoming ones.
1. Samsung Galaxy Gear S2
Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 has been recently announced and released in October. Probably the best watch which has been released by Samsung with its round design and the uniqueness of the rotating bezel. It is based on Tizen OS ,though has limitation of number of apps compared to Android Wear(AW) but it could be more energy saving compared to AW. Moreover, Samsung has become the lead of the IOT industry which would unlock the potential of this OS possibly near future.
Personally, I have tried this watch for non-classic model and it does not impress me like it is announced earlier. The rotating bezel does add some interesting feature and make it easier for navigation, but the closer look and feel doesn't really match up to my expectation perhaps.
Android Wear OS has been made compatible with iOS phones...more or less will affect the sales of Apple Watch as Apple Watch is the only watch that is currently functional compatible with iOS devices.
This watch probably the nicest looking, stylish and the most premium round watch made up to date with the baked in Android Wear. Some notable feature includes sapphire surface and its battery could last from 2 to 3 days for moderate use. It is probably the most expensive AW smartwatch available in the market now.
3.LG Urbane (LTE, v2)
LG urbane series probably the most well rounded watch for what it offers. It is packed with lots of features in this tiny watch. LG has recently announced for the upcoming urbane V2 which supports LTE radio. Previous release of LG Urbane LTE do have the same LTE function but only support Korea Network at this moment. The availability will be announced later this year.
4. Moto 360 v2
This watch has received critical acclaim from media and many users for its design since the first generation was released last year. Moto 360 for 2nd generation has been announced too with some though not major improvement and it comes with more customization and two sizes. The flat tires at the bottom of the display screen still exist which irks some users away.
5. Pebble Time ( Round)
Pebble Time round has been announced to be released and shipped in November 2015. It has the same e-ink colour and same functionality as the Pebble TIme. Probably the best smartwatch released by Pebble so far but the battery life has taken a massive hit which would only last for 2 days but still seems quite a pretty good deal. Moreover, it has quick charging ability.
Below are the summary of the comparison of the smartwatches:-
So far, only Samsung Gear and LG Urbane LTE support SIM capability which makes the watch a phone as well. Apparently, Android Wear has not been customised for calling functions. There are other notable smartwatches like Garmin, upcoming Fossil and Tag Heuer. More to be added once they are confirmed...
